Reconnecting with “the Source of Being”

Madiha Safdar's photographic project reflects her personal process of simultaneous identity integration and resistance as a Muslim artist in the UK. The feeling of alienation and isolation brought Safdar closer to spirituality and, inspired by Sufism, she integrated the calligraphy of the poet Bulleh Shah and traditional motifs into the framework of her photographs, deliberately materialising her cultural context.
