The Fundação Marques da Silva was created in 2009 as a result of the donation to the University of Porto of the legacy of the architect José Marques da Silva by his daughter and son-in-law, both architects, in 1994. Comprising Marques da Silva's studio-house and the Lopes Martins family mansion, the Foundation's mission is to conserve, research and disseminate the architect's collection, incorporating other important collections from the history of Portuguese architecture and urbanism. In total, there are more than 50 collections, made up of the archives of the Foundation and the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto. José Marques da Silva was responsible for important works in the city of Porto - São Bento Station, São João National Theatre, the Monument to the Heroes of the Peninsular War and Serralves House.
